Five Favorites of November

Screen Shot 2017-11-21 at 1.04.22 PM

November has passed and I’m ready for holiday parties and Christmas music! I know this blog post normally comes a few days earlier but I’m currently in the middle of finals week. Either way, I wanted to get this blog post out for y’all because it is filled with goodies this month! These items are selling out very fast so hurry and order while your size is still in stock.

Faux Suede Bootie- I was looking for a black bootie with a heel that I could wear with jeans when I stumbled across the Short Fuse Bootie from A’GACI. These booties are surprisingly comfortable and definitely do not look their price- at $26.90 a pair they are a steal. They’re also surprisingly comfortable and the faux suede means that I don’t have to worry about puddles or dirt like I would with real suede!

Bow Sweater- Last year, for their Holiday 2017 collection J.Crew designed this sweater in 100% merino wool and it sold out almost immediately. Seriously, every fashion blogger was wearing this thing. Flash forward to November 2017 and I find the sweater in a cute little consignment boutique in a small town outside of Austin. I was really excited to find this sweater but I’m even happier to tell y’all that J.Crew Factory, the outlet store of J.Crew, redesigned this sweater to be more affordable in a cotton/nylon/wool blend for this year! The redesigned Factory version comes in grey or cream.

Camel Sweater- Y’all heard all about how much I love Ralph Lauren’s cable-knit sweaters in last month’s Five Favorites post. This month, I picked up a v-neck version in a camel color. I will be pairing this dreamy neutral sweater with pretty skirts and under jackets with booties all through the winter. It looks like the camel color is currently out of stock on the Ralph Lauren website, but the navy color is still available. I also recommend checking their store locator for Ralph Lauren outlet store locations near you. My local store always has these cable-knit sweaters available in all colors, even when the website is out of stock!

Ruffle Sleeves- I was eyeing this ruffle sleeve sweater at J.Crew for a while before I was sure I really liked it. This sweater is a statement maker, and now that I own it I really love those big ruffle sleeves! It is just warm enough thanks to being made of 100% merino wool. The sweater comes in four colors, but now that it has been marked down to clearance it is almost completely sold out- check in stores for more availability!

Plaid Skirt- You may remember this darling little J.Crew skirt from a blog post I made in November completely devoted to my love of all mini skirts. After watching it for a while it finally got marked down to the sale section and I snatched it up during Black Friday. It is 100% wool and the print is a dark navy, cream and red plaid which makes it perfect for the holidays. Something about a wool, plaid skirt makes me feel really festive and gets me into the Christmas spirit! I’ll be pairing this one with tucked in sweaters and riding boots.

That’s it for last month’s favorites! Stay tuned for my next blog post, I’m making my list and checking it twice… Happy holidays y’all!

My Mini Skirt Love Affair

Screen Shot 2017-10-26 at 8.56.33 PM

Hey y’all! If you keep up with my Instagram account, then you know it is no secret that I love a good mini skirt. Living in central Texas, I have the opportunity to style skirts year round. Something about a mini skirt just makes me feel like me. Plus, mini skirts are making a huge comeback lately and are being sold in basically every store right now. So for you ladies who either dislike skirts or just haven’t the faintest idea of how to style them, read on.

For the spring and summer months, my favorite brand for mini skirts is Lilly Pulitzer- theirs are actually skorts (yes for shorts under my skirt!) and come in a HUGE variety of weird and colorful prints. I love all the weird and funny things that they incorporate into their prints such as fishes, octopuses, seaweed, monkeys, flamingos etc. The textured cotton they use is a favorite of mine because it allows the skirts to be machine washable and easy to iron. Cotton is flexible and breathable for hot weather, which is a must here in Texas. On top, I like to tuck in a sleeveless top in a coordinating color or throw on a crop top. Lilly Pulitzer currently offers summer and spring clothing year round, something they refer to as Resort 365. For this reason, I love to hunt online and at resale shops for pieces from their older Fall and Winter collections. Years ago, Lilly Pulitzer sold some great wool and corduroy mini skirts for fall and winter.

When the weather starts to cool down, my go-to brand for mini skirts is J.Crew. No secret that this company specializes in fabulous outfits for the colder part of the year. They never fail to impress me with their variety of plaid, tartan, houndstooth, and gingham. Some of these prints are hard to find at other stores that try to follow all of the trends, so I appreciate that J.Crew is consistent with the classics. For this part of the year, I enjoy fabrics such as wool, denim, and corduroy. For the fall, I pair skirts with thin long sleeved tops and closed toed shoes like ballet flats or loafers. Since Texas has mild winters, I can continue to style mini skirts with boots and a coat (sometimes I don’t even need tights.)  A thick sweater looks great tucked into a skirt and a pair of tall leather boots covers your legs. For really cold days I like American Apparel tights- they’re high quality and hard to rip, plus they come in so many colors.

Love one of the skirts in the graphic above? Here’s a link to every single one of those, starting from the top-

  1. Ruffled Gingham Skirt from Nordstrom $42
  2. Sparkley Tweed Skirt from Forever 21 $17.90
  3. Blackwatch Tartan Skirt from Vineyard Vines $108
  4. Ruffled Wool Skirt from J.Crew $89.50
  5. Plaid Ruffled Skirt from J.Crew $118
  6. Corduroy Skirt from J.Crew Factory $59.50 but on SALE NOW for $44.99!
  7. Ruffle Hem Plaid Skirt from Nordstrom $52
  8. Medium Rinse Denim Skirt from Topshop $55
  9. Ruffle Hem Houndstooth Skirt from J.Crew $118
  10. Navy Scalloped Skirt from Lilly Pulitzer $84
  11. Red Buffalo Check Skirt from J.Crew Factory $52
  12. Navy Ruffled Skirt from Draper James $150

Five Favorites of October

Screen Shot 2017-11-02 at 12.13.39 PM

October, which may be my favorite month of the year (pumpkins, Halloween costumes, and scary movies- enough said) is sadly over. This month was also, for some reason, the month of “tried-and-true’s”- everything on October’s Five Favorites list is something I already previously owned, in a different color or pattern. I didn’t even realize this until I finished making the graphic for y’all that these are all items I really love, so much that I own multiples of each. So let’s jump in-

Neutral Cardigans- I didn’t realize how difficult it was to find a classic, simple cardigan until I started shopping for a plain navy and black version. I discovered a plethora of embellished and oversized cardigans but really wanted a tailored and clean look. I already own three of the wool version from J.Crew retail in pretty pastels from last spring. I wanted to branch out and find a different brand to purchase from, but I could not find anything similar at the quality level I was looking for. So I went to the J.Crew Factory store (J.Crew’s outlet store) and purchased the Cotton Caryn Cardigan in black and also in navy. These lightweight cardigans are perfect for layering over sleeveless tops and dresses to transition more summery pieces into fall.

Something Plaid- When I think of fall fabrics and patterns, the first thing that comes to mind is the image of the scarecrow in the plaid shirt. Now honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever seen an actual scarecrow on a farm (or even in someone’s yard) but that image always comes to mind when I think of fall. This plaid shirt dress from J.Crew Factory (the black version was on my September Favorites post) is what I imagine the fashionable Mrs. Scarecrow would wear. Okay, all jokes aside this dress just screams fall to me and I loved the black version so much I had to pick up another one.

Black Leather Bag- Y’all know I love purses, they fill me up with joy and carry all my junk for me. But did y’all know I didn’t own a black handbag until this month? This is the Tory Burch York Tote in the small size. I already own this one in the luggage color, which is a gorgeous deep tan so I knew this was a reliable bag. It is constructed of Saffiano leather, which was created and made famous by Prada. This type of leather is made by cross-hatching a pattern into high-quality leather then covering it with a clear coating to make the leather scratch and water resistant. This is a great everyday bag because it is easy to wipe down after spills and super durable.

Jean Jacket- Last spring, I acquired the white version of this Old Navy denim jacket at a clothing swap at my university. I don’t shop at Old Navy, so I was surprised when that little denim jacket became my favorite layering piece for windy spring days! Flash forward to this October and I’m hunting for a dark wash version. I checked all my favorite stores but couldn’t find anything that fit just right. Checked the Old Navy website and there was my favorite denim jacket in the perfect shade for fall. This looks great over a dress or paired with a skirt and simple long sleeved t-shirt.

Black Sweater- Cold weather always arrives in Austin, Texas the last week of October. Like clockwork, the cold came and I was left rummaging through my closet looking for heavier sweaters. My consensus was that I must shop for more sweaters! This cable-knit sweater from Polo Ralph Lauren was my first pick up of the season. I already own this exact sweater in a couple other colors (this sweater is always on my Christmas list!) so I already knew how amazing this cotton sweater stands up to wash-wear and regular use. After owning one of these sweaters for literally years, it still looks as good as when I got it. A sweater that doesn’t pill or fade easily is super hard to find right now in the days of fast-fashion, so I have no shame about owning this exact sweater in many colors. When something is good its’ good.

That is it for this post- happy shopping!

Five Favorites of September

Screen Shot 2017-10-02 at 2.32.37 PM

Its finally FALL Y’ALL! Now that we’re moving into the month of October my mind is on pumpkins, scary movies, and midterms. Let’s roll back to September to talk about my five favorite fashion items I purchased during the month and get y’all some links so you can go buy them too. Like always, I’ll start from the top left of this graphic and move my way over.

LBD- This J.Crew Factory shirtdress is something I never thought I would wear. It mixes two things I generally stay away from- all black and a menswear inspired dress. However, as soon as I tried this on I fell in love. Texas is still hot through September and October so I’m always looking for lightweight fall dresses. This dress is 100% cotton making it breathable and light. It is currently available in solid black or solid white as well as plaid and two gingham options. All colors/prints have now been marked down to clearance and sizes are going fast!

Shirt Dress- Ralph Lauren’s Polo Shirtdresses are nothing new. These dresses have been around for years and for good reason! When choosing pieces to add to my closet I try to stick to classics that will not look ridiculous in 2 years or even 5. I like that Ralph Lauren is an American designer and Polo Ralph Lauren products are always high quality and last for years. I picked mine up at TJ Maxx but these are also available at Polo Ralph Lauren stores (not online). This dress fits true to size- I wear a size small.

Hunter Green- This shade of green just cheers me up. Fall is my favorite season for many reasons but the lack of bright colors is not one of them. To avoid wearing neutrals every day I add some pretty jewel tones into my wardrobe. One shade I will be targeting for Fall 2017 is definitely hunter green. The ruffle sleeve trend that has exploded this year shows no sign of slowing down. This J.Crew Factory blouse features a double row of mini ruffles at the cuffs and a straight fit throughout. It is sold in solid navy, green, white or pink. This top runs big and I sized down to a size 2.

Merino Wool- J.Crew’s Tippi Sweater has been a long time favorite of mine. It is a super lightweight, fitted sweater which is perfect for warmer climates or early fall for my followers up North. The sweater is 100% merino wool which means *dry clean only ladies* but it is well worth it. This type of wool is thinner and softer than other types and doesn’t itch. The sweater is sold year-round in tons of colors and prints but the light grey color I picked up is called Heather Smoke. This sweater fits true to size- I wear a size small.

Classic Polo- Another staple piece in every girl’s closet is a polo shirt. This updated version from Vineyard Vines features a tailored fit. The navy blue color I purchased is called Vineyard Navy. My favorite part about Vineyard Vines’ polo shirts, as opposed to other brands, is how sturdy and durable the cotton/spandex fabric is that they use. I can throw this polo in the washing machine and the dryer with no shrinkage or wrinkles when it comes out. I size down in Vineyard Vines from my normal size small and wear an extra small in this top.

That completes my round up. Happy shopping y’all!

Los Angeles Trip Pt 2

Hi y’all! As promised, this post will detail the second half of my vacation in Los Angeles. If you didn’t read my first post yet, head over to read my Los Angeles Trip Pt 1 post for the first half of the story! I had so many things that I wanted to tell y’all about my trip that I couldn’t keep it to just one blog post. Through out the post, I’ll be sharing some of the things we did and dropping links to shop all of my outfits.

We visited Los Callejones, a shopping district in Downtown Los Angeles that reminded me of a giant outdoor flea market. This place was crazy y’all- street vendors were selling everything from Mexican snacks to pet parakeets. It was like nothing I have ever seen at home in Texas. The options were a bit overwhelming but I was able to pick up a couple cute, off brand dresses that I will be styling on my Instagram. This passion fruit drink was delicious and much needed in the California sunshine.

I wore my Lilly Pulitzer Nicki Skort in the print Fan Sea Pants from one of their Summer 2017 releases. This exact print is now sold out, but the skort is still available for this fall in solid white (the white version is on my wish list!) I paired it with my favorite American Apparel halter bodysuit in white. I own this bodysuit in 3 colors and this one has definitely stood the test of time. If you haven’t heard the news yet, Los Angeles based American Apparel closed all of its stores across the United States earlier this year. However, after a brief absence, it appears that their online store is still up and running! I will be stocking up while I still can. My sandals are my trusty Jack Rogers Palm Beach Sandal in white and my earrings are Kendra Scott Danielle Earrings in magenta.

We devoted an entire day to explore the beautiful town of Santa Monica, California. After spending most of the day on the beach, I threw on this Lilly Pulitzer Marco Island Tunic in the print Lovers Coral from summer 2016. It made the perfect cover up for lunch on the Santa Monica Boardwalk.

Wearing Lilly Pulitzer’s Harper Linen t-shirt Dress in the print Any Fins Possible from summer 2016 for our last full day of our trip. By this time I was tired and ready to come home- I wanted to wear something comfortable and light weight. The Harper dress is 100% linen and the embroidery and pom poms around the neckline are too perfect for vacation. I’m wearing this dress with the same sandals linked above and my Tory Burch Parker Tote in ivory from Spring 2017. Although this back is no longer available in ivory you can now snatch it up in some gorgeous fall colors like cardamom and bordeaux (tan or maroon). My earrings are the Kendra Scott Danielle Earrings in Bronze Veined Turquoise -this stone is from the Summer 2017 collection and will most likely be gone once it sells out so order this one soon.

I had to have at least one brunch before I left Los Angeles. We visited Crave Cafe, where they serve pizza alongside crepes and giant slices of oreo cake all before noon. This spread was too delicious not to share with y’all. I’m pairing the Lilly Pulitzer Duval Dress in the print Stay Cool from Summer 2016 with the jewelry from the post above. I picked this linen dress up at Ladybird, the Lilly Pulitzer signature store outside Los Angeles, and couldn’t wait to wear it before summer ends!

At LAX ready to head home! That wraps up this post! I’ll be skipping a 5 Favorites of August post since I tagged so many things in my Los Angeles Shopping Haul, but will be back with my 5 Favorites of September soon!

Los Angeles Shopping Haul

Screen Shot 2017-08-23 at 10.49.37 PM

Hey y’all! Of course, I did some shopping during my time in Los Angeles. I wanted to share all of the pieces I purchased with y’all, so I thought the easiest way to do that would be to make a haul post. Below will be individual images and links so y’all can get these things too! Scroll down for individual photos of each item and info on where to purchase. Let’s jump in.

I purchased this linen sweater at J.Crew (exact sweater linked here) at The Grove, love the light weight and trim on this one! Linen is perfect for early fall here in Texas since it will still be a bit warm here until November. It is currently on sale in 5 colors so hurry and order now.

I picked up this ruffle sleeve top at UNIQLO, (exact top linked here) a Japan based store that we do not have in Texas (yet!) It is made from super soft cotton and was a steal at only $14.90! You can order this one online if you don’t have a store near you- it comes in 3 other colors and runs true to size. I can’t wait to style this in the fall with jeans and booties.

We stopped at a favorite re-sale store of mine, Buffalo Exchange (website linked so you can find a location near you) has a store in Austin, Texas that is filled with vintage goodies. I found this brand new ZARA skirt at a Los Angeles location. I can’t resist a wool mini skirt for fall and winter. This navy version will look great over long sleeved bodysuits and sweaters.

Even on vacation, I had to stop in at one of my favorite stores- TJ Maxx! We found a two story location in Los Angeles. I find the best deals here and visit frequently to shop for things like home decor and house wares. Sometimes I wander into the clothing section and find a gem like this little jersey romper. The ruffle sleeves and low price made me throw it in my cart. I sized up for extra length and will be styling this with heeled mules and booties soon!

The second thing I picked up at the two story TJ Maxx was this silky black bodysuit. The high neck and keyhole cut out make it unique. I’ll wear this for a night out with jeans and black heels or a bodycon skirt.

IMG_8974I also stopped in at a couple Brandy Melville (exact pants linked) locations while in Los Angeles. This Italian store is famous for its California style and super soft cotton basics. A few years ago this was one of my favorite stores, but I actually haven’t shopped here in at least 3 years. I was won back when our new Nordstrom location started carrying their items and I spotted multiple gingham, plaid and french striped pieces. I spotted dozens of California girls wearing this brand, and these skinny pants may be one of my very favorite purchases! I can’t wait to wear these all fall and winter. Brandy Melville is a one size fits all store, and these have an elastic waist. They are a slim fit (despite looking like pajamas on the hanger) and would best fit a size 2-4.

One of the most interesting places we shopped at wasn’t a shopping mall but a place called Las Callejones in downtown Los Angeles. It was basically a ginormous outdoor flea market that spanned several blocks of the city. Vendors sold everything from snacks to parrots! I spotted this neon pink v-neck dress and was surprised to find it was fully lined and pretty good quality. Summer is almost over so I’ll be styling this soon for y’all!

The second thing I purchased at Las Callejones was this navy blue skater dress. It is made from thin, stretchy fabric and has 3/4 length sleeves that will be a blessing on warm fall days. I’ll be layering a field jacket over it and pairing with flats all fall long. I’ve linked an almost exact version here.

Another interesting shop we visited was Fashion Q, with locations across Los Angeles this store offers trendy, low priced items from different brands. They currently do not have a website or online store so I linked their Instagram page. This store reminded me of a local version of Forever 21. I was excited to pick out some trendy pieces no on in Texas will have! This peach bodycon dress will be perfect for a spring party with white heels.

Another gem I found at Fashion Q was this floral applique mesh bodysuit. I’ve seen many fashionistas wearing similar bodysuits all over the internet, but what really drew me to this one was the bright pink color and the daisies all across the front. This was the very last one- I took a size up because I wasn’t leaving this behind. I’ll be styling this next summer with white skirts or jeans. I found a few similar bodysuits online, including a maroon one, a high neck version in black or white and a blush rosebud version.

IMG_8967When I saw this light weight jacket at Fashion Q, it reminded me of my favorite Downtown Field Jacket from J.Crew. This navy jacket is made of soft cotton and has a hood. It also cinches at the waist and features gold hardware. It is the perfect thing to throw over sweaters or dresses all fall and winter. I linked similar jackets here and here for y’all.

The last item I picked up at Fashion Q was this basic black t-shirt dress- I sized way up for a loose and casual look. I liked this one because of the short sleeves and dolphin hem. This is something I can’t wait to style a million different ways, but I think it will look great with my black Hunter boots and a jacket when the fall storms start to roll in! I linked a similar one here for y’all.

Finally, I picked up a couple Lilly Pulitzer dresses at LadyBird, a Lilly Pulitzer signature store in Los Angeles that will be going out of business by the end of the month. I actually spotted several ladies wearing Lilly while on vacation on the West Coast even though Lilly is most popular in the south and north east. This is the Duval Dress in the print Stay Cool- it is no longer on the website but still available to order from Amazon. I love that this dress is 100% linen and has pops of navy. I plan to transition this into fall with a long navy cardigan and ballet flats!

The second dress I picked up is the Essie Dress in the print Sparkling Sands, still available to order from Nordstrom. This multi-color print screams summer so I actually popped the tags and wore this while in Los Angeles! We only have a couple weeks before fall arrives, so this one will probably not be worn again until next summer.

Well ladies, this was a longer blog post than I usually do. Thank y’all for sticking through to the end! I hope you enjoyed my haul from my vacation in Los Angeles- this is every clothing item I purchased. Follow me on Instagram @stylebyivette to see the fall items styled soon and follow the links to shop these yourself.

Los Angeles Trip Pt 1

Hi ladies! I just got back to Austin, Texas and I’m so happy to be home again. My boyfriend and I decided to take our summer vacation in Los Angeles this year (my third trip there) and I have so much to share with y’all! This blog post will be a round up of the first half of our vacation and a haul post will be coming soon to share all the goodies I purchased on the West Coast! Everything I’m wearing that is still available in stores will be tagged through out this post. I’ll mostly be discussing what I wore and the shopping we did, although I did enjoy lots of delicious food and sight seeing while I was there.

As soon as our plane landed in Los Angeles I wanted to go out and start shopping and sight seeing. I ordered this Lilly Pulitzer Marlowe Dress in the print Sea Salt and Sun from Nordstrom right before we left and it was perfect for our early morning flight and an afternoon shopping at Glendale Galleria, an indoor shopping mall and Americana at Brand, an outdoor shopping center attached to the Glendale Galleria. This mall is located about 45 minutes from LAX (Los Angeles International Airport) outside of Los Angeles in Glendale, California. I’m wearing my classic Ray-Ban Aviator sunglasses in the color Green Classic G-15. I’m also wearing my gold Tory Burch Miller sandals and teal Kendra Scott Danielle earrings in this photo, which I have talked about before on the blog.

For our first full day in Los Angeles, we headed to the beach! We spent our morning in San Pedro, the port of Los Angeles. I was surprised by how chilly it was- my favorite white denim jacket (old, from Old Navy) really came in handy. I threw it over my white Sleeveless Essie Top, a staple in my closet. This tank top is made from the nicest pima cotton and is something I wear year round.

I tucked it into one of my very favorite skorts, Lilly Pulitzer’s Michelina skort in the print Red Right Return from summer 2015. The little sail boats in this print are adorable, and I definitely matched all of the boats coming into the port. I was also wearing my white Kendra Scott Danielle earrings.

The highlight of my day was visiting the San Pedro Fish Markets, where we were able to choose our own fresh seafood and have it cooked for us on the spot. I had tons of fun picking out my own crab and lobster for lunch, something I can’t do back home in central Texas! Sipping on a giant strawberry margarita by the bay and watching the sailboats was amazing.

IMG_8349On this day I chose to wear my favorite Lilly Pulitzer Ritz Romper in the print You Gotta Regatta. This one is from their Summer 2016 collection and was a birthday gift from last year. We planned to hit up multiple malls and I wanted to wear something comfortable and easy to change out of. We ended up visiting multiple shopping centers on this day, including Rodeo Drive, Melrose Avenue, The Grove, and LadyBird.

We visited the only Lilly Pulitzer store in Los Angeles while we were there. I try to visit a Lilly Pulitzer store every time I go on vacation or a trip out of town. LadyBird is a Lilly Pulitzer Signature Store, which means it is a franchise store and independently owned. Signature Stores can be found on the Lilly Pulitzer websites store locator and are official Lilly Pulitzer carriers, but they are allowed to hold their own sales, events and carry other brands as well. This store was adorable, but unfortunately, it is going out of business and closing down by the end of August 2017. The entire store was 50%-70% off, and although there was a very limited selection by the time I got there I was able to score a couple pieces!

That is all for my round-up of the first half of my trip in Los Angeles! Keep checking back for a second blog post about the second half of my trip and my Los Angeles Shopping Haul too! Love you ladies, thank y’all for reading!
